United Nations Resolutions

United Nations Resolutions by the General Assembly are advisory. That is that they represent the combined intentions of the global powers, but they have no legal weight yet. (not law) When a Treaty or Convention is created it is internationally adopted law.

The United Nations is split into different areas that have a specific roles.  The General Assembly is the main decision making body, establishing resolutions that are agreed by the 193 member states on a 1 state, 1 vote basis.  Other UN Bodies conduct research, implement policy and other key aspects of the UN function.

When a UN Security Council adopts a resolution under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter (Threats to Peace), it is legally binding on all member states. (law)  Legal experts point to ambiguities but conclude that Resolution 2803 has been adopted under Chapter 7)

Definitions of Genocide and Related Crimes

The definition of the crime of genocide is contained in Article 2 of the Genocide Convention (only one part of the listed requirements in article 2 is needed for a genocide) and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court  (Article 6).

'The Peace PlanNot the first plan, but still a very contentious plan, has been adopted by the UN to add weight, and agency to Trumps 20 point plan.  The requirement of returning dead bodies that lay somewhere under 61 million tonnes of rubble, is now used as an excuse by Israel to keep bombing, and not allow full UN controlled aid in as agreed. Israel have moved 'the yellow line' further inwards, and bad actors may seek to bring in agencies such as the GHF who were reportedly involved in killing over 1800 civilians trying to get aid, and injuring around 19000, to continue surreptitious illegalities.

"The Question Of Palestine"

Sadly the United Nations first came to an agreement of member states in the General Assembly in 1946, resolution 181 (ii). Where it was decided (by majority vote of the participating nations - Arab nations were against) that the land would become two states, to allow for a state of Israel. But we know that history did not start in 1948. The years that followed were massacre (almost entirely by Israeli forces of Palestinian people), after massacre after massacre. Most recently with a two year razing of 83% of Gaza, (2023-2025) killing tens of thousands of civilians, following a Hamas attack which resulted in deaths of combined responsibility (Israel used tank, drone and apache helicopters to kill some of its own civilians) of over 1200. This history included unlawfully detaining millions of Palestinians over decades most without trial, including children, with killing by torture and unlawful execution.
"The Question of Palestine" is one of the greatest tragedies of the modern era.
